Mobile App Privacy Policy & Terms
Effective date: December 1, 2024
Last updated: February 4, 2026
ISI Abroad (including ISI Florence and Umbra Institute) understands the importance of protecting personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information in connection with our mobile applications (the “App”).
1) Who may use the App
Access to the App is restricted. All users must be pre-approved before being granted access. Children and non-authorized users are not permitted to access or use the App.
2) Information we collect
Account information
When you install and use our App, we may collect your username, email address, and phone number. We use this information for account identification, account administration, and communications related to your account.
Device information
We may collect limited device information (such as device model and a device identifier) for basic device identification, security, and troubleshooting.
Location information (opt-in sharing only)
We do not collect background location data. The App collects approximate location only when you explicitly choose to share it in response to an in-app prompt or action.
• You can disable location permissions at any time in your device settings.
• Disabling location does not reduce App functionality; it simply prevents location sharing.
Payment information
We do not store your payment card details. When you purchase a service upgrade, payment information is provided directly to our third-party payment processors (PayPal or Authorize.Net) and is governed by their privacy policies. These processors adhere to PCI-DSS standards for payment security.
Log and diagnostic information
Our systems may automatically collect limited information such as IP address, date/time of access, and basic diagnostic data for security, troubleshooting, and service reliability.
3) What we do not do
• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use Google Analytics in the App.
• We do not share personal information with third parties except as described in this Policy.
4) How we use your information
We use personal information to:
• Provide and operate the App
• Verify authorized access and maintain account security
• Communicate with you about account status and service notices
• Troubleshoot and improve reliability and performance
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies
5) How long we retain your information
We retain personal information only while you are an authorized user of the App. When you are no longer a user, we delete your App information, including any location-sharing data associated with your account.
We may retain limited security or diagnostic logs for a shorter period where necessary for security and system integrity, or as required by law.
6) Where we store and process information
We use service providers to store and process information on servers in the United States, including AWS and Google Workspace.
7) How we protect your information
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including authentication controls and restricted access for authorized personnel who require it to perform program-related duties (e.g., limited staff in the U.S. and Italy as needed). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to maintain appropriate safeguards.
8) When we share information
We do not share personal information with third parties except:
• Service providers that help us operate the App (e.g., hosting, storage, payment processing)
• When deemed necessary by the Institute for the well-being, protection and safety of the user and/or others in the Institute community (e.g. missing person, incident reporting, etc.)
• When required to comply with law (e.g., court order, subpoena, lawful law enforcement request)
• To protect rights, safety, and security (e.g., investigating suspected fraud or misuse)
9) GDPR notice (EEA users)
If you are located in the EEA, you may have rights under GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent (where applicable). Certain features require an internet connection. Your mobile network or Wi-Fi provider may charge fees for data usage, including roaming charges. You are responsible for such charges.
5) Updates, changes, and availability
We may update, modify, or discontinue the App (or any portion of it) at any time. You agree to accept updates when offered. We do not guarantee the App will always be available, error-free, or compatible with all devices and OS versions.
6) Third-party services
The App may rely on third-party platform services (for example, Google Play Services on Android). Your use of those services may be governed by their terms and policies.
7) Disclaimers
The App is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
8) Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The International Studies Institute, LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill arising from your use of (or inability to use) the App.
9) Termination
We may suspend or terminate access at any time, including if your authorization ends, you violate these Terms, or we discontinue the App. Upon termination, your license ends and you must stop using the App and, if needed, delete it from your device.
10) Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
11) Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time by posting an updated version. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
